8/30/21: Moving
The long gap between posts was caused by my purchasing and moving into a new home. The new home has significantly more storage space, and space for a much larger basement workshop. This post will focus on moving the boat.
The old structure covering the boat was built in 2014 and underwent many changes and repairs. My initial thought was to completely dismantle the structure, then move the boat. It became clear, however, that it would take far too long to exercise the care needed to protect the boat from the deconstruction process, so I removed only enough of the forward end so that a trailer could get in to take the boat.
In these photos, much of the old scaffolding is still surrounding the boat. This was removed.
The tarps and shrink-wrap material were removed as hurricane Henri approached. The less windage the better.
At the new home I removed some chain-link fence to open up an area next to the garage where the boat would go.
Here the fence is gone:
Back at the old house it is moving day:
Goodbye Camp Ave:
Hello new home:
Finally, after a 10-hour day, the boat is safe at home. The five spars (main, mizzen, two booms, whisker pole) are all on site, and will have their places. The only spar that must be outside due to the length is the main mast, which will live behind the garage shortly.
A new chain-link fence will be installed forward of the boat, and it will have a double 6-foot gates to make a 12-foot opening for the next time the boat moves, which will be in the general direction of salt water.
There’s still some work to do at the old house:
